Lerato Foundation Expands National Talent Scouting Programme Across Kenya

Nairobi, Kenya — January 2026

The Lerato Foundation has officially announced the expansion of its national talent scouting programme, aimed at identifying and nurturing young talent across all regions of Kenya.

Launched in January 2026, the initiative seeks to strengthen grassroots talent identification in sports, leadership, arts, and academics, with a strong focus on underserved communities where many gifted young people often go unnoticed.

The expanded programme will operate through county-based outreach teams working closely with schools, community groups, and local youth networks to identify promising individuals at an early stage.

This initiative builds on the foundation’s wider youth empowerment agenda, which includes scholarships, mentorship, and structured development pathways coordinated by the Lerato Foundation leadership team.

No talent should remain undiscovered because of location, background, or circumstance.

According to the foundation, the goal is to establish a structured national pipeline for talent development, ensuring that identified youth are supported beyond discovery through training, mentorship, and opportunity placement.

Key Components of the Programme

Officials noted that the programme is designed to bridge the gap between raw talent and structured opportunity, particularly in rural and marginalised areas where access to development platforms remains limited.

Education and sports stakeholders have welcomed the initiative, describing it as a timely intervention that could significantly boost youth potential development across the country.

The Lerato Foundation emphasized that the scouting programme is not limited to sports alone, but will also focus on leadership development, creative arts, and academic excellence.

The January rollout marks the beginning of a broader national strategy aimed at building a connected ecosystem of talent discovery and long-term youth empowerment.

This initiative aligns with other foundation programmes including scholarships across 47 counties and sports development projects such as the Darajani Sports Academy.

Across communities, the announcement has been received as a powerful signal of renewed hope for young people seeking opportunity and recognition of their abilities.
