Introduction

The Lerato Foundation Mentorship Program is a structured initiative designed to guide, empower, and transform individuals through personalized mentorship, training, and community engagement. We mentor students in institutions, youth in transition, and entire communities, ensuring holistic growth that nurtures leaders, strengthens families, and builds resilient societies.

1. Program Objectives

  • To provide academic and career guidance for students in schools, colleges, and universities.
  • To equip youth with leadership, entrepreneurship, and life skills necessary for personal and professional growth.
  • To mentor communities towards social responsibility, unity, and sustainable development.
  • To bridge the gap between generations, fostering knowledge transfer and shared values.
  • To raise a generation of leaders with integrity, compassion, and vision.

2. Target Groups

a) Students in Institutions

  • Secondary and university students.
  • Focus on academic success, scholarship access, exam preparation, and future career planning.
  • Mentorship includes guidance on handling peer pressure, mental health, and building confidence.

b) Youth

  • Young men and women transitioning into adulthood.
  • Focus on life skills, entrepreneurship, leadership, employment readiness, and financial literacy.
  • Guidance on making positive choices and navigating challenges such as peer pressure, identity, and opportunities.

c) Communities

  • Local groups, families, and grassroots organizations.
  • Focus on empowerment, teamwork, conflict resolution, and community development projects.

a) One-on-One Mentorship

Personalized sessions where mentors guide mentees in setting goals, overcoming challenges, and tracking progress.

b) Group Mentorship & Workshops

Interactive sessions on leadership, communication, digital skills, problem-solving, and social responsibility.

c) Academic & Career Guidance

  • Scholarship and internship support.
  • Career talks with professionals.
  • CV writing, interview preparation, and entrepreneurship pathways.

d) Peer-to-Peer Mentorship

Empowering trained mentees to become peer mentors in their schools, youth groups, and communities, creating a ripple effect.

e) Community Engagement Projects

4. Program Approach

  1. Recruitment & Selection: Identify mentees (students, youth, community groups) and match them with suitable mentors.
  2. Orientation: Provide training and induction for both mentors and mentees.
  3. Mentorship Sessions: Regular one-on-one and group meetings (weekly/monthly).
  4. Skills Training: Workshops, seminars, and online learning.
  5. Evaluation: Continuous tracking of mentees’ growth and mentor feedback.
  6. Graduation & Transition: Recognize mentees who complete the program and encourage them to mentor others.
