"The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members." — Coretta Scott King

As many cultures celebrate the new year as an opportunity for reflection, the Lerato Foundation recognizes that 2026 is a time for decisive action. Coretta Scott King's words continue to inspire us: "One’s impact is not measured by how large its visions, but how deeply it reaches into the lives of others." At Lerato, the status quo has never been enough; instead, we are bridge-builders and architects of hope.

This quarter has brought a maelstrom of development and celebration. After an extensive national scouting competition that ended in January, we proudly inaugurated new members for The Darajani Academy with 45 young stars identified to join its fold. These teenagers, aged 17 to 19, are not only participating in a sport, but are entering an academy that is a safe haven for excellence. We are also grateful for moving The Darajani Academy to its new home in Kajiado County, just 40 minutes from Nairobi.

But our vision extends far beyond the playing field. We are launching our boldest expansion yet through the Lerato Across Kenya campaign. Our goal is clear and enduring: to bring the essence of our foundation to all parts of Kenya via scholarships, nutrition, water, and vocational training. Our team, led by passionate young Kenyan leaders, aims to reach an additional 75% of counties by year-end. Distance will not hinder opportunity.

This year brings fresh energy across all platforms. From students preparing for international tournaments to community teams launching sustainable water projects, every initiative carries the DNA of the founder, Simon Kyenze. Our mission to transform lives through education remains unwavering.

To our volunteers, partners, and fellow citizens, you are the pulse driving the rhythm of this foundation. As we aim for ever-higher peaks in Kajiado, across all 47 counties, I encourage you to join us on this journey—already made real through the lives you touch every time you reach out.
